Avoiding Surgery With Chiropractic

Richmond Chiropractor, Paul Danford

Chiropractor, Paul Danford

I was brought up and educated in Surrey. My father was a dentist and throughout my school years, I had thought that I would follow in his footsteps. At the age of 15, I suffered horrendous lower back and leg pains after lifting a suitcase while holidaying with my parents in France. Once back in the UK I saw my GP on numerous occasions and took painkillers for months; nothing helped.

Eventually, I saw a specialist who suggested an operation, something I did not look forward to at such a young age. As a last resort, my father took me along to see his chiropractor. Within two weeks I was free of pain and back to normal, and the rest is history.

Obtaining a Natural Health Education

I decided to train as a chiropractor at the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic (AECC) after leaving public school. It turned out to be the best decision of my life. I had always struggled in school, but I excelled at AECC. I was learning something new and exciting and once qualified, knew I would be able to help people in a way very few in England could at the time.

The one subject I found most fulfilling was spinal biomechanics, a topic covering how the spine works under normal circumstances and what happens when it goes wrong. It was taught for three of the four years and at the end of the course, you felt that you were a specialist in the subject.

Living an Active Lifestyle

I am the second youngest of six children and have always been very active. I played all sports at school and obtained a full sports scholarship to attend public school based on my ability to play cricket. I also represented Surrey County in 1975-76. I have skied almost every year since the age of four, took up SCUBA diving in the late 1980s and play golf regularly, currently with a handicap of 12.

I was married in 2013 and my wife Louise and I enjoy travelling together. My favourite places on this planet are the Maldives — the closest you get to nature and Zermatt in Switzerland — the nearest you get to heaven. I intend to continue visiting both places.

Keeping Healthy Habits

To maintain good health, I try to exercise regularly and eat well. I play golf regularly, which involves walking several miles a week. Though I suffered from lower back pain as a teenager, I have my back checked and adjusted every month which keeps me mobile and painfree.
